Since 1997, Dr Mitchell has performed thousands of LASIK procedures. His clients range from family, friends and neighbors to professional athletes, coaches, astronauts and celebrities. His patients include prosecuting attorney Christopher Darden of O.J. Simpson Trial fame and three-time space shuttle veteran Pierre Thuot.
Dr. Morin added her surgical expertise when she joined Mitchell Eye Institute in 2003. Dr. Mitchell, Dr. Morin and Dr. Weber are committed to using only the latest state-of-the-art equipment and procedures. Through their association with TLC, Mitchell and Morin Eye Institute (M2EI) patients are able to take advantage of the long-term commitment and portability that having a procedure performed by a participating TLC surgeon provides.
Our doctors welcome the opportunity to comanage patients with their referring Optometrist. This allows patients, who already have an eye care provider, the continuity and comfort of being able to see their own doctor before and after the procedure.
Non-comanaged patients who elect to have their surgery through Mitchell Eye Institute will have the choice of having Dr. Mitchell, Dr. Morin or Dr. Weber personally perform all their preop evaluations, surgery and postop examinations.
Wavefront Guided CUSTOM LASIK
FDA approval was granted in 2003, and wavefront guided ablations are now commonplace. We are excited to continue to provide the latest technology to all of our patients. As with any technology, proper patient selection is a critical aspect of the process. We will help you determine if you are a candidate for this custom type of laser treatment specifically designed for your unique eye.
Bioptics is the process of coupling refractive lens exchange (RLE) or clear lens extraction (CLE) with LASIK. This process allows patients to achieve a higher quality visual result for those who have one or more of the following circumstances.
- prescription is outside the approved parameters of the excimer laser
- Insufficient corneal thickness for full correction by excimer laser
- cornea is too steep or too flat to allow full correction by excimer laser
- have the early stages of cataract development
- have already developed presbyopia (i.e. 45 years of age or older)
These patients can elect to undergo RLE/CLE which will often remove 90+% of their refractive error, followed by LASIK to treat any residual amount of astigmatism and refractive error. This procedure provides a better overall quality of vision for patients with extreme nearsightedness (myopia), or farsightedness (hyperopia).
